Rising authoritarianism, disinformation at unprecedented scale, and systemic failures have deepened polarization and eroded trust in every institution meant to bind us together. At the same time, artificial intelligence has entered public life in ways unimaginable just a decade ago. Tools that can simulate speech, generate plausible lies, and harvest our fears for profit threaten to accelerate the very fragmentation they could help heal.
Yet we believe that public life—and AI—can be different. Our Voices Unbound is an urgent, ambitious charge? to reclaim the questions we most need to ask—and build a new civic infrastructure that helps us wrestle honestly with what we find. It is an effort to surface wisdom from the margins, meet people where they are, and invite communities to imagine and help shape new futures together.
